A second phase of additional funding has been announced for the landmark Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP).
£45 million has been awarded by the government to the Department of Energy and Climate Change to bolster their work and help fund green projects across the public sector.
LCBP offers the public sector grants towards the cost of any renewable energy installations or micro generation technologies. The public sector can benefit from up to 50 percent towards the cost of any installation.
As a result LCBP Phase One will receive an additional £10 million of funding. This sees the current programme extended from July 2010 to April 2011.
LCBP Phase Two will receive an additional £35 million of funding. The current programme has been extended from 1 July 2009 until April 2011 in order to support technologies, leading into the introduction of Feed-in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive.
By 2050, all public sector buildings must have reduced their greenhouse gas emissions by 80% and carbon emissions of all buildings will now count towards each local authority’s Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).
The installation of renewable technologies can help organisations meets carbon reduction targetsand even provide a revenue stream if enough power is produced to be sold back into the national grid.
