Bury College
Energi were assigned to design and install a Solar PV array on the roof of the Woodbury Campus building at Bury College. The building has a large roof that is mostly free from obstructions. Energi faced a few challenges in the design of the PV array, as a new 5 storey building to the West of the Woodbury Campus meant the initial proposed position of the panels needed to be moved.
The 50kWp system at Bury College Woodbury centre uses a Big Foot mounting system which is a ballasted system. This is ideal for flat roofs as the A frames can be tilted to various pitches depending on the site. At Bury a 10o tilt was used optimising the roof area available and minimising shade.
As an educational facility, monitoring and the performance of the PV system was an added benefit. The SMA Inverters have additional technologies available such as Blue Tooth Sunny Webbox sending data from the inverter to the client’s internet monitoring system. A Sunny Sensor box can also be used in conjunction with this to monitor weather conditions. This information can be further analysed as well as providing real time data.
The public display at Bury College is a 46” LCD screen located in the Woodbury Centre foyer. The public display was fitted with a built-in PC which could run a slideshow showing different screenshots displaying different information. This includes power generated now, total energy generated to date and C02 saving to date.
